  7. I have been on plaquenil since December and notice heartburn often but it has helped me with really bad flares but not from the everyday pain. I recently had blood work taken and my SED Rate was higher at 51 and my complement total was still high along with my ANA high positive at 0.

As far as I know the advice is to make sure that antacids and Plaquenil are taken at least 4 hours apart. If they are taken together - effectiveness decreases but 4 hours apart is OK. Never do tomorrow what you can put off till the day after tomorrow! For most Americans, heartburn is just an occasional problem. For those living with RA though, regular use of NSAIDs and medications like Methotrexate or Prednisone, the occasional heartburn becomes more of an everyday trial. This results in chronic acid reflux that causes irritation and inflammation to the lining of your esophagus, a condition known as gastroesophageal reflux disease GERD. However, some drugs can interact with hydroxychloroquine. Indigestion remedies for example, antacids including some over-the-counter preparations can stop hydroxychloroquine being absorbed. It's recommended you wait at least four hours after taking hydroxychloroquine before you take an indigestion remedy.
