    Plaquenil and liver enzymes

Although it is uncommon, lupus can also attack a patient’s liver, causing a more pronounced elevation in liver enzymes, such as ASTs and ALTs. When this happened to me, my symptoms included pervasive malaise, nausea, itching, and worsening of my overall health and lupus activity.

High liver enzymes can be a result of lupus, and my rheumatologist said some of this is not uncommon in lupus patients. Although it is uncommon, lupus can also attack a patient’s liver, causing a more pronounced elevation in liver enzymes, such as ASTs and ALTs. A very light or pale poop is a sign of liver trouble. The pale poop stopped after several weeks off plaquenil. The horrible itch did to. I've always relied on my doctor to keep a check on my test regarding this drug but he never once mentioned anything about my liver function test. Yet I was having the itching and pale stools. Core tip The existence of liver disease associated with lupus itself, or increased susceptibility to concomitant liver diseases, either autoimmune or non-autoimmune ones, is still somewhat controversial, and difficult to diagnose. Data in the literature are scarce, and often based on case reports or clinical studies with limited patient size or histological evidence.

They consulted and referred me to a gastroenterologist. My family doctor was persistent in finding an answer, and wouldn’t let my rheumatologist rest until they found one.

  5. I am another one with a diagnosis of UCTD. My symptoms most resemble lupus, but positive ANA is the only specifically associated test that is consistantly positive, other than off and on elevations in Sed rate, CRP and liver enzymes. I had one very mildly positive rheumatoid factor. I've been on Plaquenil for 3 years.

Liver Enzymes. The liver produces several enzymes involved in metabolism. Among them, the aminotransferases, also called the transaminases, ALT and AST, which function in protein metabolism, have particular diagnostic value, as they become elevated in several diseases, including those of the liver and gallbladder in addition to disorders of other tissues, including the heart and muscle. The doctor just phoned and said my liver enzymes are up and to defintately stop the Plaquenil. I am so disappointed, I am not sure where to go from here. My rheumatologist is not back until the 15th, he was hoping the Plaquenil wouldn't cause any problems. Liver enzymes are present in liver cells and are spilled out into the bloodstream when there is an injury or illness to the liver. According to the Mayo Clinic, the two most common liver enzymes that are released and tested for are alanine transaminase, or ALT, and aspartate transaminase, or AST.

A 3D QSAR Pharmacophore Model and Quantum Chemical Structure−Activity. Using CATALYST, a three-dimensional QSAR pharmacophore model for chloroquineCQ-resistance reversal was developed from a training set of 17 compounds. These included imipramine 1, desipramine 2, and 15 of their analogues 3−17, some of which fully reversed CQ-resistance, while others were without effect.
