    Does plaquenil cause diarrhea

I am very underweight and do have chronic diarrhea, but gosh, this seems invasive as a first step in trying to figure out . Has anyone had chronic diarrhea/weight loss from Plaquenil?

I suspect plaquenil for giving me some episodic diarrhea. I am 100 mg dose and take it with my supper. Did they happen to anyone else and did it eventually stop with the diarrhea side effect? It helps so much with the fatigue and pain. I have a sensitive stomach and perhaps I shouldn't have eaten that salad for lunch yesterday. Aug 14, 2017 According to Drugs.com, Plaquenil given for a long term can cause retinal disorders after a few months or years of daily use--especially if the dose exceeds 400mg per day. The risk of retinal damage increases at doses of 600mg to 700mg. I started taking Plaquenil 4 weeks ago for non specific autoimmune disease as indicated by ANA. Symptoms were low grade temperature off and on for a year, joint pain and fatigue. I have already felt some relief. Some nauseau at first but less problem with fever and joint pain. But, now I have started having stomach cramps and diarrhea. I understand these may go away. Is there anything I can.

My rheumatologist nor the GI doctor have suggested alternate treatments to see if it could be the problem. I know it can be a temporary side effect for some, but I've been on it for a year.

  5. I have been on Plaquenil and can tell you my diarrhea started within days of starting the med. My doctor warned me that diarrhea and weight loss were side effects. I said, "Well, I am usually very constipated and could stand to lose 10 pounds so this could be a good thing." haha. I am NOT constipated any more but have not lost any weight either. I can tell you, I will take the discomfort of diarrhea over the discomfort, bloatiness and hemorrhoids from constipation.
